Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his initial title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since spring of 2023.

Success also indicates he has secured 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

His defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to question if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet defended four initial chances in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
