It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
